GLASSER - APPLY EP

In pictures and onstage, Cameron Mesirow is often shrouded, wearing a mask, for instance, or cloaked in kaleidoscopic light from the projections that are part of her set. In person, Mesirow, who makes music as Glasser, is an open book: friendly, high-spirited, and willing to share nearly any detail, from her self-consciousness about her music’s digital infrastructure to the particulars of her dreams. This project, she says, exists in a state “between sleep and wakefulness,” and even the Glasser name came from a midnight vision of a figure hovering over water. The songs’ content emerges from the same place, and their structure grows slowly from the in-headphone trance Mesirow cultivates when she’s working.Sometimes it takes the eye of an outsider to see something others would miss. No one better exemplifies that than Mesirow. Though her just-released Apply EP brings the number of Glasser songs in circulation to a spare six, Mesirow’s output is earning an abundance of attention for its consistently charming mix of artfulness and unvarnished beauty. Composed on Apple’s GarageBand program, songs feature her hypnotic voice layered over an array of synth sounds and prefab percussive loops. It’s sublime, drone-prone electronic folk, not that Mesirow had anything like that in mind when she started Glasser.

AUERGLASS

Symbiotic relationships with Instruments

The Auerglass is a two person pump organ created by Tauba Auerbach and Cameron Mesirow. The instrument cannot be played alone. Each player has a keyboard with alternating notes of a four octave scale. Each player must pump to supply the wind to the other player's notes.The Auerglass was included in the exhibition: Tauba Auerbach HERE AND NOW/AND NOWHERE at Deitch Projects September 3–October 17, 2009 Performances Tuesday through Saturday at 5pm daily. Special performances September 3 and September 11 at 8:00pm followed by Glasser

SPECIAL OTHERS

Special Others is a Japanese post-rock band that blends improvised jazz and post-rock influences to create a modern style of jazz that is popular with younger club scene fans. The members of the band met in high school and formed the group in 1995. They began performing in earnest in 2000, and their first major release, Indy-Ann, remained in the CRJ-tokyo charts for seven weeks.

Their first release on NMNL Records was the EP"Ben" which entered the Tower Records Shibuyaindie chart at #1, and #2 in the national Tower Records chart. After releasing their second EP, "Uncle John", in June, 2005, the band played at theFuji Rock Festival in July.

In June, 2006, they released "Idol", which was followed by a sell-out gig at Daikanyama UNIT in July, the release "Aims" at Tower Records in October, and the release of their long-awaited first full album, "Good Morning", on November 22. The band toured with Asian Kung-Fu Generationfrom late 2006, with guest appearances at five performances across Japan.

BEE AND FLOWER

Bee and Flower is a band that was founded in 1999 by singer/songwriter/bassist/composer Dana Schechter. The band released their debut CD "What's Mine Is Yours" on Neurot Recordings in 2003. In 2004 the band moved to Berlin, Germany, recorded a new album, and have been playing concerts, touring and recording further.

Made in Berlin with engineer Ingo Krauss (formerly of Conny Plank Studios, Köln) , Bee and Flower's second album features a 25-piece string section, a whirlwind of grand pianos, vintage electronics, delicate melodic percussion, a mammoth ‘bass section’, keyboards, guitars, lap steels, and sweeping vocal choirs. Many special guests joined the band for the recordings, and band members featured on Bee and Flower's albums and in the live group include members of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Calexico, Keren Ann, Iggy Pop, Angels of Light, Stephan Eicher, Swans, and Bertrand Burgalat.
